work at the store, Leigh’d had various people in and out, prepping for his opening. Malcolm had seen him make himself scarce more than once.

Leigh cooed to the baby he held. Leigh had claimed the child as soon as they’d arrived and wasn’t letting anyone else take him. His family though it was cute and funny. Malcolm could see his claim to be a sucker for babies was very true.

Leigh glanced at him sharply, then Malcolm watched as he returned his gaze to his mother and said something. His dad touched the side of his nose, the signal that his mother had said something that would get you into trouble. Malcolm took another sip of his beer and leaned against the wall, waiting to find out what she’d told Leigh. He didn’t have to wait long. Leigh said something to his parents, then made his way over to him. The other family members didn’t stop him—they all knew the signal. Leigh leaned beside him and rocked the baby. The rest of the family acted like they weren’t paying attention, but Malcolm knew better.

“Your mother is wondering what kind of china set I’d like. What have you been telling them? Hell, your family seems to know all about me.” Leigh spoke softly.

Malcolm raised the beer to his lips, covering his smile. Two weeks after meeting Leigh he’d gone to his parents and told them he’d met the one he wanted to spend his life with.

They’d been happy for him and his mother had questioned him all about Leigh. He’d filled them in and made her promise to wait to meet Leigh, since he was still working on convincing him. With his dad’s help, they’d persuaded her not to find a way to meet Leigh.

Malcolm knew his mother wouldn’t have offered to get them a china set unless she liked Leigh and was sure that Leigh was the one for him. His mother didn’t get every spouse of her kids one.

For example, David’s previous wife hadn’t been given the gift, however Sheila, his current wife, had received hers before David had even proposed. David had been pissed at the time, saying he wasn’t marrying again. He was proven wrong when he did. For Simon’s wife, his mother had given her a set right after the first time she’d met her. They’d barely been dating for a month. Simon hadn’t liked it very much, since he was a bit of a player and didn’t want to marry. He, too, had got married. Malcolm was pleased that his mother was gifting Leigh with a set, but also knew she’d just made his winning Leigh over harder.

“I wanted them to know about my new relationship.”
